CAE Lands $180M Recompete for Helicopter Flight Training

CAE Defense & Security has secured a recompete contract valued at $180 million to continue providing comprehensive flight training support for the U.S. Army’s advanced airframes.

The company said Monday it was awarded the competitive recompete contract under the Advanced Helicopter Flight Training Support, or AHFTS, program. The renewed contract supports the Army Aviation Center of Excellence, or AVCOE, and the 110th Aviation Brigade.

Recompete Contract Details

The contract aims to bolster the AHFTS program’s pool of instructor pilots, or IPs, by doubling the number of IPs for the UH-60 Black Hawk aircraft. It comes with options allowing future expansion of training support.

The deal is expected to be completed by 2030. It includes an initial base period with four one-year option periods.

What Is the AHFTS Program?

The AHFTS program enhances flight training by leveraging the expertise of CAE instructor pilots, maintenance evaluators and non-rated crewmembers. The program involves around 900 Army aviators and students from foreign countries each year. The participants are trained to transition into operating a rotary wing aircraft, particularly the CH-47F Chinook heavy-lift transport helicopter, UH-60M Black Hawk medium-lift utility helicopter or the AH-64E Apache attack helicopter.
