In a LinkedIn post published Wednesday, the Washington, D.C.-based company said Fitzpatrick will oversee research and development, customer-centric prototype development efforts and emerging technology partnerships.
The U.S. Air Force veteran’s appointment at Akira marks his return to the technology company, where he served as chief operating officer between 2012 and 2017.
“His innovation agenda includes novel applications of AI, unique approaches to data engineering, and data security,” Akira said of Fitzpatrick.
According to his profile on the professional networking platform, Fitzpatrick most recently served as director of federal programs at SandboxAQ, where he led the delivery of quantum and artificial intelligence technologies to customers in government and commercial markets.
His industry career included leadership roles at several tech companies including Click Here Digital, Cosain Technologies, Booz Allen Hamilton (NYSE: BAH) and Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT).
Fitzpatrick currently serves as a senior technology fellow at the Center for Advanced Defense Studies. He was a logistics/maintenance officer in the Air Force from late 1990s to early 2000s.
