Scout Space Eyes Government Market With Free Space Acquisition

Scout Space has acquired Free Space, a startup that developed satellite autonomy software concepts, as both companies aim to establish a presence in the government market.

Free Space CEO Gil Valdes and Executive Chairman Vin Bisceglia will join Scout as vice president of government programs and VP of growth, respectively, Scout said Thursday.

Founded in 2022, Free Space designed the Guardian Satellite and Trellis platforms with the goal of helping secure spacecraft and satellite systems.

Free Space has secured over $1.5 million in U.S. Space Force contracts to further develop automation software.

“With a high market demand for our on-orbit services and mission augmentation capabilities, this acquisition uniquely positions SCOUT to respond immediately to our government customers’ needs,” said Eric Ingram, CEO of Scout Space.

The acquisition comes after Scout Space secured an investment from Noblis’ venture capital arm through a seed funding round.
