Planet Labs‘ federal business arm will continue providing defense and intelligence agencies with access to Earth surface imagery collected by its constellation of Dove and SkySat satellites.
The extended partnership between the National Reconnaissance Office and Planet Federal is under a renewed contract that also provides for SkySat video capabilities for limited use cases, the company said Thursday.
According to Planet, data from Dove and SkySat imagery can be applied to several areas of interest to the Department of Defense and the intelligence community. It can also be used to inform decision making in support of military operations and government missions.
“Repeated, daily imagery complements taskable systems and when leveraged together, compresses the time between event detection, threat identification and action,” said Robbie Schingler cofounder and chief strategy officer of Planet.
Planet has been providing imagery services to DOD and IC customers since 2016.
