MDA Releases Draft RFP for Missile Defense Integration, Test & Readiness Support

The Missile Defense Agency has posted the first draft request for proposal for system integration, test and readiness efforts in support of the Ground-Based Midcourse Defense, a part of the U.S. ballistic missile defense system meant to target and eliminate intermediate- and long-range threats.

The SITR Program will cover integration and evaluation services for the GMD weapon system, next generation interceptor and in-service fleet, MDA said in the beta SAM notice published Friday.

Operations and sustainment of the ground weapon system– both of its legacy and future iterations– will also be provided under the SITR effort.

GMD employs ground-based interceptors, and ground support and fire control systems to detect, track and destroy ballistic missile threats in space to defend the U.S. All GMD components are linked to a data and voice communications system that uses fiber optic cabling and satellite communication capability to securely share information.

The agency released the first of the two planned draft RFPs to promote information exchange, communicate the government’s requirements and gain understanding of industry capabilities.

Responses to the draft RFP for SITR Program will be received until June 2.
