Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC) has secured a $115.5 million contract option from the U.S. Navy to provide weapon replaceable assemblies and support services needed for the integration of Large Aircraft Infrared Countermeasures technology onto military aircraft.
The company will perform studies, analysis and systems engineering services to install the LAIRCM system on aircraft platforms for the Navy, the U.S. Air Force and the Australian government, the Department of Defense said Wednesday.
WRA products covered by the exercised option include advanced threat warning sensors; laser transmitter assemblies, multirole electro-optical test sets and personal computer memory cards.
DOD expects work under the modification to conclude in June 2023.
The Navy initially awarded Northrop a two-year, $132.3 million contract in May 2019 to procure LAIRCM integration hardware and support for U.S. and foreign military customers.
According to Northrop, the system is designed to help aircrews detect, track and jam incoming IR threats.
