The AI Initiative Office will supervise and implement the U.S. national AI strategy and will serve as the central hub for federal collaboration in AI research and policymaking across the government, as well as with the private sector, academia and other stakeholders.
The new office has been established in accordance with the recently passed National Artificial Intelligence Initiative Act of 2020, which has expanded existing AI policies and initiatives at the White House and throughout the federal government, including The American AI Initiative.
In addition, the Select Committee on Artificial Intelligence was expanded to supervise the initiative, and the national AI research institutes and National AI Research and Development Strategic Plan were also codified.
