Alion to Help Air Force Study Radio Spectrum; Alan Dietrich Quoted

Alion Science and Technology has secured a five-year, $51M task order from the U.S. Air Force to explore opportunities for a potential early network deployment in radiocommunication spectrum bands.

The company said Tuesday it will help the Air Force Spectrum Management Office conduct spectrum studies, determine frequency allocation for the military branch's systems and recommend approaches for the Department of Defense to comply with Advanced Wireless Services-3 transition requirements.

Under the task order, Alion will also provide suggestions to help DoD craft spectrum management doctrine and policies, collaborate with military stakeholders and complete the certification process.

“Ensuring AF and DoD systems are not compromised during this transition is critical to maintaining electromagnetic spectrum (EMS) superiority over our adversaries," said Alan Dietrich, senior vice president and general manager at Alion.

Dietrich added the studies aim to increase the government's ability to manage spectrum relocation efforts and evaluate potential arrangements to share the spectrum.

DoD test and training facilities use AWS-3 frequency bands in warfighter preparedness and weapons system development programs.

The AF Installation Contracting Center issued the task order under the DoD Information Analysis Center Multiple Award Contract.
