KBR Subsidiary Lands Potential $128M NOAA Observation Network Mgmt Support IDIQ

KBR’s (NYSE: KBR) Stinger Ghaffarian Technologies business has secured a potential five-year, $128.4M contract to provide data processing and technical services for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s network system for Earth-observation data.

An award notice posted on the beta SAM website says the indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract has delivery orders that will run through April 6, 2025.

SGT will help the agency’s National Weather Service manage its network of surface-observation networks known as “mesonets” that handle data such as solar radiation, soil moisture and road temperature for weather forecasting.

Efforts under the contract will support the National Mesonet Program, which consists of aviation- and surface-based observation systems located primarily in the south-central U.S. NWS seeks to expand the number of its observatory stations near airports, highways and population centers, according to a performance work statement,

NWS also plans to conduct observations from mobile platforms such as commercial vehicles and aircraft that would enable agency professionals to collect data with “much greater fidelity than would otherwise be permitted with NWS’s backbone systems and platforms alone,” the notice added.

KBR acquired SGT in 2018.
