On Monday, GovConWire reported that President Trump would nominate Rep. John Ratcliffe (R-Texas) to succeed Dan Coats as the director of National Intelligence.Â
“I think that John Ratcliffe is going to do an incredible job, if he gets approved,” Trump told reporters at the White House via CNN. “I think we need somebody like that that’s strong and can really rein it in. As you’ve all learned, the intelligence agencies have run amok,†he continued.
Rep. Ratcliffe was elected to the House of Representatives after unseating former Congressman Ralph Hall, the oldest person to ever serve in the House, in 2014 after Hall served the office for 17 terms. Ratcliffe’s victory marked the first time in 20 years that a sitting Republican congressman in Texas had been ousted in a primary. He was also reelected in 2016 and 2018 by a wide margin.Â
Ratcliffe is currently assigned to the House Intelligence Committee, the House Committee on Homeland Security, the House Judiciary Committee and the House Ethics Committee. He’s also a member of the Republican Study Committee and the Congressional NextGen 9-1-1 Caucus. In late 2018, the Trump Administration considered him for the role of the U.S. Attorney General.Â
Ratcliffe is board-certified in civil trial law by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. He has served as adjunct professor of law at various law schools, including Dedman School of Law and Texas Wesleyan University. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government and International Studies in 1987, and earned a Juris Doctor from Southern Methodist University School of Law in 1989.

Guidehouse Acquiring Navigant Consulting for $1.1B
Guidehouse, a portfolio company of Veritas Capital, announced on Friday that the company has entered into a definitive agreement worth approximately $1.1B to acquire Navigant Consulting. The transaction is projected to conclude in the fourth quarter of 2019.Â
Once the acquisition is completed, the companies will bring together their respective expertise with a focus on supporting client needs in the industries of Healthcare, Financial Services, Energy, National Security, and Aerospace & Defense. Scott McIntyre, CEO of Guidehouse and 2019 Wash100 Award winner will lead the combined company once the acquisition is finalized.Â
