TYSONS CORNER, VA, September 4, 2018 ” Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory has moved forward to the final assembly and design phase of a NASA program aimed to develop spacecraft that will work to redirect the path of an asteroid in support of planetary defense, ExecutiveBiz reported Friday.
The lab said Thursday it received NASA approval mid-August to continue work under the Double Asteroid Redirection Test mission, which seeks to demonstrate the kinetic impact technique by using APL’s targeting technology on the DART spacecraft to change the orbit and orbital speed of the smaller body in the Didymos asteroid system.
