Deanna Grady, senior manager of federal, state and local government sales at LinkedIn Learning, has said government agencies should provide training opportunities to employees to help them develop new skills needed to facilitate citizen engagement efforts.
Grady wrote that talent developers should play a key role in workforce planning initiatives and an example of that is through the creation of learning opportunities for employees to achieve growth.
She cited the focus areas for talent development this year and those include soft skills training; the need to understand the impact of technology; skills development tracking; insights on internal skills gaps; and identification of trends to avoid such gaps.
She mentioned the use of online learning platforms by talent developers to help meet workforce requirements and the top two challenges faced by these organizational leaders when it comes to workplace learning.
Those challenges are the lack of time for learning among employees and involvement of managers in employee learning.
Agencies should explore how to engage key partners in cultivating a culture of learning that adapts to the pace of workplace change, Grady wrote.
Talent developers, employees, managers and executives need to work together to develop a plan for skills growth to help their employees better serve citizens, she added.
