TYSONS CORNER, VA, May 15, 2018 ” Hughes Network Systems will build a Flexible Modem Interface prototype that will enable interoperability between military and commercial systems as part of a follow-on contract under a Defense Department pilot study, ExecutiveBiz reported May 8.
The company said May 7 the contract covers work for the second phase of a program focused on producing a new FMI to facilitate interoperable satellite communications systems in support of the military, as well as an assessment of future DoD capability requirements, including wideband communications architecture.
“[We] will examine how to create an interoperable system that is flexible and resilient, allowing DoD™s various global applications to operate over its own satellite network as well as leveraging commercial satellites, management systems, gateways, waveforms and modems for DoD terminals to increase mission assurance,” said Rick Lober, vice president and general manager of defense and intelligence systems at Hughes.
