Matt Needy
Matt Needy, formerly vice president of the Virginia-class submarine program and fleet services at Huntington Ingalls Industries‘ (NYSE: HII) Newport News Shipbuilding division, has been appointed VP of operations at the same division.
HII said Wednesday Needy will report to Newport News Shipbuilding President Jennifer Boykin and oversee trade, manufacturing, material logistics and facilities operations in his new role.
Needy assumed his more recent position last year and managed the unit’s Virginia-class construction program; submarine fleet maintenance in Newport News; and global fleet support activities.
He previously served as director of the Virginia-class submarine program; component fabrication and assembly; corporate business operations; and process improvement and strategy.
Needy joined the company in 1991 as an engineer for the Seawolf-class submarine program.
