Jean Milbrandt, formerly director of business operations at Mitre, has been promoted to vice president and chief financial officer of the nonprofit corporation.
Mitre said Tuesday Milbrandt succeeds the retiring Mark Kontos and aims to help maintain the company’s position as manager of federally funded research and development centers.

“Jean blends a long background in finance management with a deep commitment to supporting the public interest within an FFRDC model,” said Peter Sherlock, senior VP and chief operating officer of Mitre.
“I look forward to working closely with her as we innovate and make improvements that help our sponsors make the world a safer place.”
She joined Mitre earlier this year as director of strategy and integration for finance and administration within the Center for Finance & Administration.
Milbrandt previously held a 17-year career at NASA‘s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and served in finance leadership positions at Raytheon (NYSE: RTN).
