TYSONS CORNER, VA, Aug. 26, 2016 Keith Salzman, chief medical information officer at IBM‘s (NYSE: IBM) global business services unit, has said blockchain is an emerging technology that can help the healthcare information technology sector address challenges in efficiency and security, ExecutiveBiz reported Wednesday.
Salzman wrote in a blog post published Tuesday that the shared ledger technology of blockchain will work to validate transactions through consensus to ensure continuity of care, establish provenance to support accountability, establish immutability for the attribution of actions and determine finality in transactions.
“The federal healthcare IT community should monitor the emergence of this capability as a way to address privacy and security in making healthcare information available within the healthcare ecosystem, ” he said.
