Former CENTCOM Commander Lloyd Austin Joins UTC Board of Directors; Gregory Hayes Comments

Lloyd Austin, former U.S. Central Command commander, has been elected to join United Technologies Corp.‘s (NYSE: UTX) board of directors.

UTC said Wednesday the retired U.S. Army general will join the company on Sept. 1 and become one of 14 board members.

Austin served in the Army for over 41 years and held various command and staff roles, including as commanding general for Centcom with coverage across a 20-country region that includes Iraq, Syria, Iran and Afghanistan.

“General Austin is renowned for his distinguished character, exceptional leadership skills and deep understanding of national security issues, international relations and the challenges facing the global community, ” said Gregory Hayes, UTC president and CEO.

Austin has also served as commander of United States Forces-Iraq and vice chief of staff of the Army.

He holds a bachelor’s degree from the U.S. Military Academy and a master’s degree in education and business management from Auburn University and Webster University, respectively.
