VMD, an Xcelerate Solutions company, has teamed up with The Chertoff Group and SureScan to establish a joint venture that would offer remote screening technology to airports worldwide.
Through the joint venture, the companies introduced Gigaplex, a system that works to enable rapid remote screening at airport security checkpoints worldwide, The Chertoff Group said Wednesday.
“Our experience with security screening at large and small airports gives us a unique opportunity to enhance customer experience without compromising security,” remarked Vivek Malhotra, president at Xcelerate.
Streamlining Airport Security Processes
Gigaplex is built with open standards to enable easy integration with any approved computed tomography scanners. The technology works by remotely monitoring X-ray images from offsite locations.
According to SureScan President Jeff Hamel, Gigaplex can deliver sustained belt speeds of up to 430 images per hour, ensuring enhanced security.
Lee Kair, principal and head of transportation and innovation at The Chertoff Group, added that the system aims to increase the efficiency of the screening process at airports worldwide and improve customer satisfaction.
The companies also said Gigaplex reduces IT network utilization by 70 percent by compressing images and optimizing operations, ensuring that airports with standard technology infrastructures can maintain efficient use of the remote screening system.
