Zero Trust, CMMC & AI: Inside the Potomac Officers Club’s 2024 Cyber Summit Agenda

On June 6, the Potomac Officers Club will host the 2024 Cyber Summit, bringing together the best and brightest cyber leaders from across the public and private sector landscapes to discuss the most urgent and consequential issues and opportunities in the cyber realm.

Potomac Officers Club events offer attendees unparalleled networking and learning opportunities with senior government and industry executives. The 2024 Cyber Summit is no different! This can’t-miss summit will cover topics such as CMMC, supply chain security, artificial intelligence, zero trust and much more. Check out some of the summit’s sessions below:

Cyber Summit Keynote Speaker David McKeown

David McKeown, a previous Wash100 Award winner, is the senior information security officer and deputy chief information officer for cybersecurity at the Department of Defense. As such, he provides policy, technical, program and defense-wide oversight support on all matters related to cybersecurity.

Recently, McKeown said he was looking for AI applications in cybersecurity

“I’ve been searching for use cases where AI is being used to do cybersecurity things and, so far, I’m not seeing too many,” McKeown said at an AFCEA event. Addressing the audience, he added, “if you happen to know of any products out there that are leveraging AI to do cybersecurity things, I’d love to talk to you. This is a key part of our zero-trust strategy.”

Implementing and Managing AI in Government

AI has taken the world by storm in recent years, and government officials are now dedicating their resources to adopting AI technologies quickly, effectively and responsibly. This panel features Shane Barney, chief information security officer for the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, and David Carroll, associate director for mission engineering at the Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency..

Third Party Cyber Risk in Public Sector Supply Chain

Within the past few years, a number of factors have uncovered risks, vulnerabilities and threats in our supply chain — especially when it comes to cyber products, software and other emerging technologies.

Wash100 winner Randy Resnick, director of the DOD’s Zero Trust Portfolio Management Office; Brian Peretti, deputy chief AI officer and director of domestic and international cyber policy for the Department of the Treasury; Kanitra Tyler, information and communications technology/cyber supply chain risk management service element lead at NASA; and Amy Foy, vice president of contracts and supply chain for Nightwing, will convene to discuss how to thwart supply chain cyber risks and ensure security in this panel discussion.

How Important is Network Security in a Zero Trust World?

As the Pentagon moves forward with its plan to implement zero trust security principles across the defense enterprise by 2027, network security is coming to the fore as an increasingly critical component.

Kathryn Knerler, IC chief information security officer and director of the cyber security group for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence; and Dr. Curtis Arnold, chief scientist for cyber at Core4ce are set to discuss the intersection of zero trust and network security in this panel discussion.

CMMC: Is Your Company Cybersecurity Ready?

The Department of Defense’s Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification is a program designed to protect information shared by the Pentagon and its contractors through specific security requirements. The CMMC program has seen a few iterations and revisions, with “CMMC 2.0” currently in the federal rulemaking process.

Derrick Davis, director for industrial cyber security for the DOD’s Office of Small Business Programs; Karen Evans, managing director of the Cyber Readiness Institute; Yasmine Abdillahi, executive director of cybersecurity governance, risk and compliance for Comcast Business; and Kelley Kiernan, CISM and professor of cybersecurity at the DOD’s Defense Acquisition University will help attendees of this panel discussion learn more about how their companies can comply with evolving CMMC requirements and what’s on the horizon for the program.

Improve Cyber Threat Response with Collaborative and Secure Information Sharing

Cyber threats have grown increasingly consequential as cyber attackers become more sophisticated and new risks emerge. To combat the rise of cyber threats, experts believe secure information sharing may hold the key to improved response times.

Vu Nguyen, chief information security officer for the Department of Justice, and Sarah Nur, associate CIO and CISO for the Department of the Treasury
