2024 marks the second straight year that Tait is part of Wash100. In 2023, the ManTech chief executive received the award for the first time in recognition of his work in leading the company as a newly minted private organization following its acquisition by The Carlyle Group for $4.2 billion. That transaction closed in September 2022; Tait took the helm at ManTech a month afterward.

“In less than two years as CEO, Matt has proven to be a worthy recipient of the Wash100 Award and the ideal successor to uphold and continue ManTech’s legacy,” commented Executive Mosaic CEO Jim Garrettson.

“Matt is augmenting an already capable engine of growth with strategic acquisitions, AI integration, key executive appointments and a seasoned leadership style that has dovetailed into ManTech’s culture of trust, performance and delivery for over 1,000 current contracts and 60 government agencies,” the Wash100 founder added.

Under Tait’s continued exemplary leadership, ManTech saw through 2023 and the early days of 2024 the appointment of new talent who would help the company make headway in achieving its goals and implementing its strategies, like the addition of former Mercury Systems executive Michael Ruppert, who has been given the role of ManTech chief financial officer.

To attract and retain top-level talent, Tait told Executive Mosaic in March that ManTech works to foster a culture where employees “feel like they have a voice and feel valued.” The company also strives to take care of its people by investing in training and education and by fostering a career environment that allows employees to take on the “role that you want to have for your lifestyle, to allow you to be your authentic self,” Tait added.

Through that same period, the company was awarded hundreds of millions of dollars in government contracts, mostly in national security, like the $622 million task order awarded by the U.S. Army to support the Combat Capabilities Development Command C5ISR Center or the $261 million contract to provide the U.S. Air Force with IT, intelligent systems engineering and various advanced technologies.

The continuing focus on national security as a core element of ManTech’s mission has made the merging with Carlyle seamless, Tait said in the spotlight interview, noting that the acquiring organization appreciated that “we’re a national security company, that we’re focused on the federal market — they love the brand of ManTech.”

“I wake up every morning wondering what’s best for our country — I want our whole company to feel like that,” Tait added.

Most notably, in September, ManTech acquired Definitive Logic Technologies, a provider of technology solutions and digital transformation consulting services for federal agencies. At the time, Tait said the transaction builds on his company’s consultative services. He later elaborated on this point, explaining during a conference in October that the Definitive Logic acquisition was, for his company, a “pivot” from “the tech insertion and technology sustainment work” toward the “trusted advisor space.”

“[We’re] trying to make sure we expand our capabilities, expand the art of possible for us,” Tait added.

Reflecting on a successful 2023, Tait says, “Of the many achievements over the last year, I am most proud that our company set the benchmark for attracting and hiring the industry’s finest talent to support clients in every sector we serve: defense, Intelligence Community and federal civilian. The ManTech team made outstanding achievements in solving our customers’ toughest challenges with sophisticated solutions that ranged from high-end engineering and emerging tech to cognitive cyber, Intelligent Systems Engineering and software development — powered by AI and machine learning.”

As for the coming year, Tait remarks, “ManTech started 2024 well positioned to drive innovation with our high-tech, highly-differentiated solutions and offer enduring and enriching careers for employees — in service to our nation and those who call the U.S. their home.”

Executive Mosaic congratulates Matt Tait and his team at ManTech for once again being named a Wash100 awardee.
