The State Department has approved Australia’s request to procure up to 22 M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System launchers and related equipment from the U.S. government under a potential $975 million foreign military sale agreement.
The proposed FMS transaction includes unitary and alternative warhead missile pods for the Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System and its extended-range variant, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Friday.
Reduced-range practice rockets, intercom systems, resupply vehicles, communication mounts, training equipment and spare and repair parts are included in the request.
Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT), L3Harris Technologies (NYSE: LHX), Leonardo DRS (Nasdaq: DRS) and Oshkosh (NYSE: OSK) are named principal contractors on the potential transaction.
Australia plans to use the systems to strengthen homeland defense and critical infrastructure security and boost interoperability with U.S. and allied forces.
If completed, the deal will not require the deployment of contactor and government representatives to Australia.
