John Sherman Highlights DISA’s Work on Zero Trust, Other DOD’s Strategic Priorities

John Sherman, chief information officer of the Department of Defense and a 2023 Wash100 awardee, discussed how the Defense Information Systems Agency and its operations align with the National Defense Strategy and DOD’s strategic priorities during a fireside chat held Wednesday at a conference in Baltimore, Maryland.

Sherman cited DISA’s work on the Joint Warfighting Cloud Capability program and Thunderdome prototype and other zero trust initiatives, the agency said Wednesday.

“I can think of no better way to create dilemmas for the People’s Republic of China and Russia and others than by implementing zero trust and preventing lateral movement across our networks and systems – keeping them away from our most critical data and in a way that we’re going to do this at scale – 4 million plus people – one of the largest enterprises in the world, by 2027,” he noted.

The Pentagon CIO also highlighted the importance of the department’s cyber workforce.
