In its historic 10th run, the distinguished Wash100 Award continued the tradition of selecting an extraordinary cohort of notable executives. Mungovan once again shined as a standout competitor during the award’s complex selection process, which carefully considers the past achievements and anticipated contributions of the most revered government contracting industry leaders.

Mungovan joined Oracle in 2005 as senior director of business value services for the computer technology provider’s global industry business unit. Nearly two decades later, his dedication to Oracle’s mission continues to serve as a pillar of its innovation.

In his last blog post, Mungovan discussed the unique aspects of the company’s approach to delivering cloud offerings to federal agencies.

“Oracle provides a serious cloud that has been designed for massive government workloads – running mission-critical applications and infrastructure securely, efficiently and effectively,” he wrote.

Mungovan emphasized the importance of thinking of cloud adoption realistically and avoiding a “one size fits all” approach to government infrastructure and application implementation.

“Sometimes, agencies want to continue to use traditional technology, while others want to start off brand new in the cloud. We support it all: on premises, in the cloud or a mix of both that we call hybrid,” he added.

The federal government has embraced this array of cloud offerings. In 2022, Oracle received a significant number of Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program authorizations as well as multiple other clearances for government use.

Last February, the company was granted FedRAMP High Provisional Authority to Operate authorizations for an impressive nine cloud service tools, which allow government organizations to review log data, monitor updates and patches, automate metadata collection, share cloud resources, provide autonomous databases and carry out other functions.

In the same month, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure was approved by the Department of Defense to host Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmentalized Information and Special Access Program missions.

A later authorization came in March, when the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure for Government secured FedRAMP+ validation, which allows the architecture’s use with unclassified defense and intelligence information. This achievement also made Oracle’s VMWare, OCI Data Science and Oracle Exadata Service tools available through the FedRAMP+ Augmented Environment.

In May, the company received DOD Impact Level 5 Provisional Authorization for additional services available in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, including Oracle Autonomous Database and Integration Cloud.

These accomplishments culminated in Oracle’s selection for the monumental $9 billion Joint Warfighting Cloud Capability contract in December to support the delivery of enterprise-wide, globally available cloud offerings to DOD and military customers.

Oracle’s stance as an immovable force in the cloud technology field has already presented itself in 2023. The company kicked off the year with a Defense Information Systems Agency approval for its Aconex for Defense construction project management software, which is now authorized to handle controlled unclassified information for the DOD. This validation allows engineering and construction teams to collaborate in a centralized data environment using Aconex for Defense’s suite of cloud-based tools.

With Mungovan at the helm, Oracle is positioned to carry this momentum further and maintain its standing as a top player in the public sector cloud market.

Executive Mosaic thanks and congratulates Pat Mungovan and the Oracle team for their 2023 Wash100 Award win.
