Former HHS Chief AI Officer Oki Mek Joins Microsoft as Federal Sector CISO

Oki Mek, who served as the first chief artificial intelligence officer at the Department of Health and Human Services, has joined Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) as chief information security officer for the company’s federal civilian business, according to his LinkedIn announcement Wednesday.

Prior to this appointment, he held a short stint as CISO at patient data management technology provider Equideum Health.

Mek previously spent 11 and half years at HHS. As CAIO, he drove the widespread adoption of AI across the department and helped promote ethical, legal, secure and trustworthy AI.

Before HHS, he was an information technology security contractor at the Department of Energy. The former Army National Guard member holds various information security certifications.
