Video Interview: Definitive Logic CTO Michael Conlin on Ethical AI

In today’s rapid expansion of artificial intelligence across the public and private sectors, the responsible and ethical use of AI has become a top priority. However, the issue of ethics in AI isn’t as simple or binary as the “trolley problem,” according to Michael Conlin, chief technology officer of Definitive Logic and previous  Wash100 Award winner. Ethical AI, he says, is about a culture of operational discipline that delivers predictable performance.

That operational discipline can facilitate improvements in a wide range of government operations processes and procedures, Conlin shared during a video interview with Executive Mosaic. “But we have to do it right,” he said.

Conlin also spoke on Definitive Logic’s growth strategy and culture, driven at the highest level by the company’s “Credo Principles and Behaviors.” These guiding principles help Definitive Logic avoid running into issues, but they also help the company mitigate problems when they inevitably do arise.

“We say it’s not a question of if things will go wrong, it’s a question of when things will go wrong,” said Conlin, noting that having a strong response strategy in place plays an important part in Definitive Logic’s year-over-year growth and success.
