Lockheed, AWS Offer Cloud-Powered Satellite Ground Comms Service; Rick Ambrose Quoted

TYSONS CORNER, VA, December 12, 2018 — Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) has entered into a partnership with Amazon Web Services in an effort to enable customers to access satellite data and send satellite commands via the cloud even with unexpected outages or disturbances, ExecutiveBiz reported Nov. 28.

The AWS Ground Station service will operate alongside Lockheed’s Verge antenna network to support satellite ground communications and data management using virtual private clouds for public safety, military, weather observation and other critical operations, Lockheed said Nov. 27.

Rick Ambrose, executive vice president of Lockheed’s space business and a three-time Wash100 awardee, said the joint offering is aimed to facilitate developments in areas such as environmental research, security operations and news media.
