A United Launch Alliance (ULA) Atlas 5 rocket blasted off from Cape Canaveral, Florida on Saturday (April 14) carrying a multi-satellite military payload, the joint venture Lockheed Martin/Boeing space company said in a statement. Weekend tourists could be seen along the beach watching the 20-story rocket generating some 2.5 million pounds of thrust as it lifted off into space. The rocket was carrying a military communications support satellite and other experimental material, CBS reported. The successful launch marked the 77th for the Atlas V rocket since its inaugural launch in 2002, ULA said.
