John Steckel Named American Systems Business Development VP; Peter Smith Comments, Steckel Interviewed

John Steckel, a more than 16-year federal market veteran, has joined American Systems as vice president of business development at the Chantilly, Va.-based information technology and engineering services contractor.

American Systems said Monday Steckel will oversee the company’s efforts to identify new customers and implement capture strategies.

œJohn will be an integral part of our leadership team, particularly in shaping strategies across our business areas and integrating efforts across delivery and business development, said American Systems President and CEO Peter Smith, a three-time Wash100 recipient.

Speaking with GovConDaily Tuesday, Steckel added, “I™ve been blessed to have worked in many great companies and with many great people. It™s an amazing company with truly gifted people with a long legacy of delivering quality solutions in support of our national priority programs.”

Steckel previously held an SVP role at Vencore, which merged with DXC Technology‘s (NYSE: DXC) U.S. public sector business and KeyPoint Government Solutions to form a new company now known as Perspecta (NYSE: PRSP).

He also served in BD roles at Raytheon (NYSE: RTN) and BAE Systems‘ U.S. arm. Before that, he held marketing and operational positions at FedEx (NYSE: FDX) and PepsiCo (Nasdaq: PEP).

Prior to joining industry, Steckel spent 21 years as a PC-3 Orion flight officer with the U.S. Navy and U.S. Naval Reserves.
