Former IBM Federal Exec Andras Szakal Named VP, CTO of The Open Group

Andras Szakal, formerly an executive at IBM (NYSE: IBM) and a more than three-decade industry veteran, has been appointed vice president and chief technology officer of The Open Group.

He will lead the consortium’s technical strategy and strategic vision for evolving standards in his new role, The Open Group said Monday.

Szakal spent nearly a decade at IBM, where he most recently served as VP and CTO of the company’s U.S. public and federal business and represented Big Blue on The Open Group’s governing board of directors.

He also served as chair of the Open Trusted Technology Forum and as co-chairman of the Open Professions Work Group, and has been a key contributor to the open source community, security standards, cloud and several government supply chain security workgroups.

Szakal said he will work with David Lounsbury, chief digital officer for The Open Group, to align the organization’s goals as they support member initiatives around agility and digital transformation.

“Our immediate focus will be making sure that we become a digital enterprise and that we embrace Digital Transformation as a key core capability and concept from a consortium perspective,” he added.
