Mercury Systems (Nasdaq: MRCY) has agreed to purchase Torrance, California-based defense systems integrator Physical Optics Corp. for approximately $310M in cash to expand the former's global avionics and missions systems portfolio. Mark Aslett, president and CEO of Mercury, said the deal would expand platform and mission management content on the company's airborne programs.

BAE Awarded $144M to Help Sustain USAF Avionics, Electronic Systems

BAE Systems' information and electronic systems integration business has secured a five-year, $144M contract to maintain  avionics and electronic components of various U.S. Air Force platforms. The company will perform sustainment, repair and engineering services for B-52 and B1-B bomber aircraft, AN/ALQ-155 power management systems, USM-638 radio frequency transmission line test equipment and ASQ-151 electro-optical viewing systems, the Department of Defense said Friday.

Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) and its Skunk Works group will update the avionics system of the U.S. Air Force's U-2 Dragon reconnaissance aircraft under a potential $50M contract. The company said Thursday it will lead aircraft components design, integration and testing efforts in the project.

Raytheon Technologies started trading Friday on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol “RTX” after United Technologies Corp. and Raytheon completed their all-stock merger that was first announced in June 2019. The Waltham, Mass.-based publicly traded combined company has approximately $74B in pro forma 2019 net sales and operates with about 195K employees worldwide focused on developing technologies across hypersonics, cybersecurity, avionics and directed energy, among other areas, Raytheon Technologies said Friday.

Stephen Timm, president of the avionics business unit at United Technologies Corp.’s (NYSE: UTX) Collins Aerospace subsidiary, has been named president of the subsidiary. He will succeed Kelly Ortberg, who has been appointed special adviser to the office of the CEO as UTC and Raytheon (NYSE: RTN) move ahead with their merger to form Raytheon Technologies, UTC said Friday.
