Northrop Books $294M in 3 Navy Contracts for Spacecraft Ground Station, Aircraft Equipment, Mine Detector Services

Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC) has received three separate multi-year contracts from the U.S. Navy for the development of space vehicle terminals, procurement of hardware for weapon replaceable assemblies and delivery of support services for a mine detection platform.

The Department of Defense said Thursday Northrop will provide the Navy with Relay Ground Station Asia under a $99.6 million contract, which covers RGS-A hardware and software design, development, testing and integration. The terminal will be used to link legacy space vehicles in the geosynchronous orbit with the Next Generation Space Based Infrared Systems Ground System of the Space System Command.

Work will be conducted in Boulder, Colorado; and Guam through March 2027.

Northrop will also supply threat warning sensors, processor units, laser transmitter assemblies, battery kits and other hardware needed by the Navy to equip various military airborne platforms with the Large Aircraft Infrared Countermeasure system. Under the $98.4 million contract, assembly deliveries to the service branch will be made through July 2024.

The third contract from the Navy is potentially worth $95.9 million and provides for a range of services needed to ensure the safety and operability of the Airborne Laser Mine Detection System. Northrop will perform logistics, engineering and depot services at its Melbourne, Florida location through March 2029 if all contract options are exercised.

The firm-fixed-price, cost-plus-fixed-fee contract has a base value of $26.1 million.

In addition to Navy funds, the awards are covered by the Space Force and Air Force fundings.
