Philip Perconti Named Leonardo DRS CTO

Philip Perconti, former top science and technology executive within the U.S. Army, has joined Leonardo DRS as chief technology officer.

He will oversee the Arlington, Virginia-based defense contractor’s corporate strategy for research and development, advance innovation and broaden partnerships to facilitate the development of integrated technology platforms that could help improve warfighting capabilities, Leonardo DRS said Monday.

Perconti brings to the role more than three decades of science and technology leadership, research and management experience as Leonardo DRS continues to invest in capabilities and technologies in various areas, including force protection, network computing, electronic warfare and advanced sensing, in support of the U.S. military.

Leonardo DRS CEO Bill Lynn said Perconti’s understanding of future tech trends will help the company address gaps in its portfolio and build next-generation capabilities for clients.

Perconti most recently served as deputy assistant secretary of the Army for research and technology and Army chief scientist. Prior to that, he was director of the U.S. Army Research Laboratory with oversight of six technical business units with more than 3,000 employees.

He is a Technical Fellow of the Military Sensing Symposium and has published articles covering machine learning, military sensing and countermine/counter IED technology, among other topics.
