FAA to Solicit New Control Tower Designs for Regional, Municipal Airports

The Federal Aviation Administration plans to launch a solicitation process to identify a new air traffic control tower design that can address the agency’s energy efficiency and sustainability requirements.

FAA said Thursday it will structure the design sourcing effort into three phases: request for information, request for qualification and request for offerings.

The agency plans to select up to 15 offers based on the RFI, then ask the chosen participants to submit resumes and capability statements in the RFQ phase. FAA will then downselect six companies to provide the agency a conceptual design and a corresponding cost estimate for the RFO phase.

The agency will answer questions from potential offerors at a webinar scheduled for Nov. 9 and will open the registration period for the first phase of the sourcing process on Nov. 16.
