Pentagon to Drop Border Wall Projects Backed by Defense Funds

The Department of Defense will cancel all projects related to border wall contruction that are backed by funds initially intended for military projects, missions and functions in compliance with President Joe Biden’s proclamation.

“DOD has begun taking all necessary actions to cancel border barrier projects and to coordinate with interagency partners,” Jamal Brown, deputy spokesman for the Pentagon, said in a statement published Friday.

The Pentagon will use the unobligated funds to support deferred military construction projects and assess the list of deferred projects for funding prioritization.

In early 2020, reports emerged that the Trump administration planned to reprogram about $7.2 billion in defense funds to support construction work on the border wall.
