David Kessler, former public sector counsel at Verizon and a two-decade industry veteran, has joined BAE Systems’ U.S. arm as vice president and associate general counsel for information technology and cybersecurity.

Kessler said Tuesday in a LinkedIn post he will oversee BAE Systems Inc.'s security and IT teams and provide advice on emerging IT, cybersecurity, data privacy and insider threats.

In his most recent role, he served as Verizon’s lead product counsel for the company’s public sector arm with oversight on federal, state and local government as well as education and public safety programs.

Kessler previously spent over six years at McAfee in various leadership roles that include group counsel and chief compliance officer.

He also held legal positions at Intel (Nasdaq: INTC), Autodesk and Symantec. His career began in 2000 as a senior associate at Greenberg Traurig.
