Pentagon Signs $126M Contract to Increase 3M Mask Production Capacity

The Department of Defense has awarded 3M (NYSE: MMM) a $126M contract to increase the company's monthly production of medical-grade masks for COVID-19 response.

Lt. Col. Mike Andrews, a DoD spokesman, said in a statement posted Wednesday the company will work to produce 26M N95 masks every month beginning in October.

Services include design, delivery and facilities and equipment needed to boost respirator manufacturing capacity by at least 312M units within a 12-month period.

The company will produce initial masks in Wisconsin and expand an existing facility in Aberdeen, S.D.

DoD awarded the contract in partnership with the Department of Health and Human Services.

The Joint Acquisition Task Force leads the N95 procurement effort using funds from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act.
