GSA Seeks Comments on Proposed Consolidation of Special Item Numbers

The General Services Administration has asked industry for feedback on new special item numbers and subcategories it plans to implement in relation to its proposal to consolidate 24 Multiple Award Schedule contracts into a single procurement vehicle by Oct. 1.

Alan Thomas, commissioner of GSA’s Federal Acquisition Service, said in a statement published Wednesday the consolidation of SINs supports the agency’s goal of having a single contract schedule.

“Suppliers will be able to come to the marketplace with their offerings using a solutions-based approach — mirroring the way agencies buy. It will also allow our customers to more easily find and buy the right solutions to fulfill their missions using a single schedule, instead of buying products from one schedule and services from another,” Thomas added.

Stephanie Shutt, director of MAS program management office at GSA, said the agency has consolidated duplicate SINs and will retain all SINs set aside for small businesses.

“We have currently culled our SINS from more than 900 to around 300,” added Shutt.

Responses to the request for information are due July 12.

GSA issued early this month an RFI for the proposed MAS consolidation, which is part of the agency’s Federal Marketplace Strategy aimed at simplifying the procurement process for government agencies, suppliers and acquisition professionals.
