TYSONS CORNER, VA, February 7, 2019 — Leidos (NYSE: LDOS) participated in an Office of Naval Research-facilitated extended testing activity to demonstrate the autonomy capabilities of the company’s Sea Hunter unmanned surface vessel, ExecutiveBiz reported Friday.

The company said Jan. 31 the Sea Hunter was able to navigate autonomously without a human crew on a two-way journey between San Diego and Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, marking a milestone in the ONR’s Medium Displacement Unmanned Surface Vessel program.

“The recent long-range mission is the first of its kind and demonstrates to the U.S. Navy that autonomy technology is ready to move from the developmental and experimental stages to advanced mission testing,” said Gerry Fasano, president of Leidos’ defense group.
