Lisa Atherton

Textron (NYSE: TXT) closed its acquisition of Waterboro, Maine-based robotic ground vehicle maker Howe & Howe Technologies on Dec. 17, Defense News reported Thursday.

Textron announced its intent to buy Howe & Howe in October 2018 in a push to expand its autonomous technology offerings across land, air and maritime domains.

Lisa Atherton, president and CEO of Textron Systems, said she aims to bring investments to Howe & Howe to help the company further develop its existing products and begin work on new platforms.

According to the report, Howe & Howe proposed its RS2-H1 robot for the U.S. Army’s Squad Multipurpose Equipment Transport development contract.

Atherton told the publication she considers the SMET contract as one of the four programs she expects Textron to secure in 2019.
