Lockheed, Navy Seek to Combine ML & Robotics for 3D Printing Process

TYSONS CORNER, VA, October 3, 2018 — Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) is studying the possible uses of machine learning and robotics to support additive manufacturing as part of work required under a $5.8M U.S. Navy contract, ExecutiveBiz reported Tuesday.

The company said Monday its Advanced Technology Center will work with the Office of Naval Research to explore ways to train robotic platforms using artificial intelligence so they can make decisions based on verified data analysis and produce 3D-printed parts with little need for close monitoring and less risk of variables that could impact quality.
