Lockheed Martin Backs Competition on AI-Enabled Autonomous Drones

TYSONS CORNER, VA, September 7, 2018 — Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) has partnered with the Drone Racing League to establish a competition focused on utilizing artificial intelligence to operate an unmanned aircraft system, ExecutiveBiz reported Thursday.

The company said Wednesday participants in the $2M AlphaPilot Innovation Challenge will be tasked to develop an AI framework to power drones that can defeat their pilot-operated counterpart in a race, as part of a larger effort to advance AI, machine learning and fully autonomous flight technology.
