Japan Maritime Force Tests Interception Capability of Raytheon’s SM-3 Block IB Missile

TYSONS CORNER, VA, September 14, 2018 — Raytheon (NYSE: RTN), the Missile Defense Agency and the U.S. Navy took part in a demonstration of the missile defense capability of Japan’s maritime self-defense force and the compatibility of its JS Atago ship with the Block IB variant of Raytheon’s Standard Missile-3, ExecutiveBiz reported Thursday.

An SM-3 Block IB missile was launched from the Japanese destroyer during the activity near Hawaii to intercept a target missile deployed from the Pacific Missile Range Facility, in a move to verify the interceptor’s ability to engage targets as well as build on the U.S.-Japan missile defense cooperation, Raytheon said Wednesday.
