Northrop-Built ICESat-2 Spacecraft Set for Sept. 15 Launch Under NASA Mission

TYSONS CORNER, VA, August 10, 2018 — A Northrop Grumman-built (NYSE: NOC) spacecraft is scheduled to launch Sept. 15 from Vandenberg Air Force Base to perform a mission for NASA that aims to collect data on Earth’s changing terrain, ExecutiveBiz reported Wednesday.

The space agency said Wednesday the Ice, Cloud and land Elevation Satellite-2 will lift off aboard a United Launch Alliance Delta II rocket on its final launch and utilize the Advanced Topographic Laser Altimeter System instrument built by the Goddard Space Flight Center to measure laser pulse travel time between the spacecraft and Earth’s surface, thus determining the terrain’s height and changes over time.
