TYSONS CORNER, VA, May 2, 2018 — General Atomics has received funds via grants under the Energy Department‘s U.S. Industry Opportunities for Advanced Nuclear Technology Development program to advance research and development on new fuel types for nuclear reactors, ExecutiveBiz reported Tuesday.

The company said Monday DOE will support two projects worth an estimated $3.2 million combined, with the aim to produce and license a system that features silicon carbide composite fuel cladding and uranium carbide fuel pellets.

General Atomics will work with Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the University of Tennessee as part of the effort.
