General Atomics to Add New Equipment to DIII-D National Fusion Facility


TYSONS CORNER, VA, May 22, 2018 — General Atomics is set to perform a year-long enhancement on a magnetic fusion research reactor that it operates for the Energy Department to include new equipment designed to support studies of new platforms for future fusion reactors, ExecutiveBiz reported Monday.

The company said Friday the DIII-D National Fusion Facility will be equipped with new radio-frequency systems and particle beams that work to sustain plasma and boost current as well as new microwave platforms to help explore conditions similar to burning plasma.
