U.K.’s $500M MQ-9 UAV Support Extension Request Gets State Dept Approval

The State Department has approved a potential $500 million foreign military sale of defense articles and support services for the U.K’s fleet of MQ-9 Reaper unmanned aerial vehicles.

General Atomics‘ aeronautical systems business and MAG Aerospace will serve as prime contractors for the sale, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Wednesday.

The U.K.’s requested for follow-on Reaper program support, depot and organizational level maintenance and equipment, minor modifications and upgrades, spare and repair/return parts, publication and technical documentation services.

DCSA noted the British government aims to maintain the operational readiness of the country’s MQ-9 UAVs in order to support coalition operations.

The proposed transaction will not require the deployment of additional U.S. government and contractor representatives to the U.K.
