John Elbon

John Elbon, a 35-year veteran of Boeing (NYSE: BA), has succeeded Dan Collins as chief operating officer at United Launch Alliance.

ULA said Thursday Elbon most recently served as vice president and general manager of the space exploration division at Boeing’s defense, space and security business.

In this capacity, he led the unit’s civil space programs and work with NASA on programs related to the International Space Station, Commercial Crew Development and Space Launch System.

Tory Bruno, ULA president and CEO, said Elbon “brings a tremendous amount of expertise in the area of civil space” to the Boeing-Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) joint venture.

His Boeing career also includes time as VP and program manager for commercial programs, VP of systems integration for the U.S. Army’s Future Combat Systems and manager for multiple programs at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center.

He led the Chicago-based company’s work as prime contractor on a multibillion dollar contract for ISS design, construction, integration and operations support services.
