Karen Shields, formerly vice president of health sector at Serco Inc., has been promoted to VP of health services business unit at the British contractor’s North American arm.
Shields will directly report to Chairman and CEO Dave Dacquino and oversee the development and operations of the company’s business with the Department of Health and Human Services that include a 2013 contract with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Serco Inc. said Friday.
Dacquino said Shields’ client-centric perspective and passion to deliver novel platforms to the health care market make her the right candidate to lead the newly established health unit.
Shields moved to Serco in October 2017 after time as deputy director at CMS’ center for consumer information and insurance oversight.
She also held other leadership posts at CMS such as director for marketplace operations and customer liaison and support services division as well as head of consumer information insurance systems group.
The more than 30-year health care veteran spent nine years at Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT), where she offered support services to federal agencies such as the departments of Defense and Treasury.
