European Commission OKs Northrop’s Orbital ATK Purchase


The European Commission has approved a deal for Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC) to acquire Orbital ATK (NYSE: OA) for approximately $9.2 billion.

Northrop said Monday it continues to support the Federal Trade Commission in its effort to evaluate the transaction.

The European Commission’s decision came nearly a month after Kathy Warden, Northrop president and chief operating officer and a 2018 Wash100 recipient, announced plans to establish a new innovation systems business once the Falls Church, Virginia-based defense contractor completes the acquisition.

Northrop received from FTC a second request for additional data on the pending merger in December.

Orbital ATK (NYSE: OA) has received a two-year, $171.2 million contract option to produce a seventh batch of Advanced Anti-Radiation Guided Missile systems for the U.S. Navy and foreign military sales customers. The company will convert 271 AGM-88B High Speed Anti-Radiation Missiles from the Navy into 253 AGM-88E AARGM all-up-rounds and eight Captive Air Training Missiles, the  Defense Department said Wednesday.
