September 8th Market Close: GovConIndex Closes Down as Major Indices Close Mixed


The Executive Mosaic GovCon Index (GCI) reversed its positive direction yesterday to close down 0.762 percent to 101.346. Advancing and declining shares closed evenly on the day. The platform companies Navistar International, BAE Systems, Textron Inc., and Boeing all shared the top slots of the GCI, all posting in excess of 1.0 percent gains.

The major indices closed mixed with minor change as the S&P500 down 0.15 percent to 2,461.43, while the DJIA gained a modest 0.06 percent to 21,797.79, and the NASDAQ Composite lost 0.59 percent to close at 6,360.19.

Crude oil pulled back today as WTI on the NY Mercantile Exchange closed down 3.12 percent to $47.56 per barrel. Markets reacted to the potential decline in demand for oil as Hurricane Irma bears down on The Florida Coast.
